Climate change is a very real concern for everyone who lives on this planet and, as a responsible retailer, we’re dedicated to taking every possible step to reduce the environmental impact of our business. We pledge to regenerate resources, all whilst continuing to help you feel at home.
We’re planting trees, in partnership with the Woodland Trust. Planting trees is one of the best ways to tackle our climate crisis. To be carbon neutral by 2050, the UK needs 1.5 billion new trees (that’s 50 million trees a year!). PlanTree can help us to make a real difference, supporting the Woodland Trust in their efforts to restore our native woodlands and protect wildlife habitats.
Thanks to all our customers, so far we have planted enough trees to create 333 hectares of woodland. This tree planting is equivalent to over 300 international rugby pitches and will provide homes for millions of fungi, thousands of moths, and a multitude of birds and small mammals. This volume of trees has the potential to remove around 100,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide over their lifetime. Taking care of the environment - this home to all of us - is a passion shared by our colleagues and customers and we continue to look at ways to minimise our impact on the world around us.
We always make sure that our prices are fair, so, whatever time of year you shop you’ll get the best price we can offer. That’s why, in 2019, we first decided to turn Black Friday green and celebrate with a deal that would benefit the whole planet by planting trees for every order. We partnered with the Woodland Trust and planted almost 2 hectares of new woodland, thanks to our customers! The success led to a permanent reforestation initiative with the Woodland Trust and PlanTree was created.
Our PlanTree initiative will fund the planting of thousands of trees through the Woodland Trust’s funded tree pack scheme, enabling schools and communities who are passionate about creating and restoring woodlands to plant trees. In 2023, the Woodland Trust’s aim is to provide one million trees to schools and communities so now more than ever they can enjoy the benefits of planting trees. This number of trees has the potential to lock up 198,000 tonnes of carbon over their lifetime.
Not only do trees play an important part in tackling the climate crisis, but the natural world provides a place of sanctuary and wellbeing for many. Nature is good for all of us and at Sofology, we’re proud to support an initiative that encourages and creates green spaces for the benefit of communities and wildlife.
Together we planted over 100,000 trees in 2020 as part of our PlanTree scheme. However, our tree planting ambitions don’t stop with PlanTree. As part of our commitment to becoming a carbon neutral operation we are also investing in natural climate solutions. Through the Woodland Trust’s Carbon scheme, we planted over 17,500 trees in the UK which absorbed the equivalent of the CO2 emitted by our activities in 2020
